Who We Hire.
Lead coachesplan and run a session from the front. You hold the group, set the session’s theme and take the register, and you are the person a parent speaks to at the end of the hour. Most of our lead coaches hold UEFA C or are working towards it.
Assistant coaches work inside a session someone else leads — running a station, taking a small group, spotting the child who has gone quiet. It is the best way into the academy if you are early in your coaching career, and most of our lead coaches started here.
Holiday camp coaches work full days in the school holidays. The groups are wider in age and ability than an academy night, so it suits a coach who is comfortable improvising.
Goalkeeper coaches are the hardest role to fill and the one we are always interested in. If you are a specialist, get in touch whether or not a role is listed above.
What We Pay, and the Hours.
We publish our rates because “competitive” wastes everybody’s time. These are the bands; each role above states its own.
| Role | Rate | Typical hours |
|---|---|---|
| Lead coach | £20–£25 per hour | 2–6 hrs/week, evenings |
| Assistant coach | £12–£15 per hour | 2–4 hrs/week, evenings |
| Holiday camp coach | £90–£110 per day | Full days, school holidays |
| Goalkeeper coach | £20–£25 per hour | 1–3 hrs/week |
Sessions run on weekday evenings in term time. Kirby Muxloe coaches on Mondays, Earl Shilton on Fridays. You are paid for the hour you coach and for any planning time we ask of you, and camp days are paid whether or not the camp fills.
What We Look For.
- A coaching qualification. FA Level 1 for an assistant role; UEFA C or working towards it for a lead role. Our senior sessions are led by UEFA B & C qualified coaches.
- An in-date enhanced DBS. On the update service ideally. If yours has lapsed we will process a new one — it just needs to be done before you take a session.
- Safeguarding certification. FA Safeguarding Children, in date. Non-negotiable, for obvious reasons.
- Emergency first aid. FA Emergency First Aid in Football or an equivalent.
- The bit no certificate covers. We are looking for coaches who are still interested in the child who is not the best player in the group. That shows up in a trial session faster than on a CV.
Coaching at Star Soccer Academy.
We run one session at a time and we run it properly. Groups are capped, every session has a plan, and coaches are not asked to supervise forty children in a sports hall and call it development.
Coaches get CPD paid for. If you are working towards UEFA C, or want your goalkeeping or futsal badges, we will fund the course and work the dates around your sessions — we would rather grow a coach than advertise for one.
The academy is expanding. Earl Shilton opened in September 2026 and more centres are planned, which means the coach who joins as an assistant this term is the one we look at first when a lead role comes up. That is how most of our current lead coaches got their groups.
Where We Coach.
Kirby Muxloe
Our main centre, at Kirby Muxloe Football Club. Monday evenings, from Mini Stars through to the academy age groups.
About the centre →Earl Shilton
Our newest centre, running Friday evenings and building through its first season — which is where most of this year’s new coaching hours are.
About the centre →How to Apply.
Open the role you want from the list above and fill in the form on its page — it takes about five minutes and you can attach your CV. There is no covering letter to write.
We read every application ourselves and come back to everyone, including the people we are not taking forward. If it looks like a fit we will invite you to come and see a session, then to coach part of one with a coach alongside you. Nobody is handed a group on their first night.
If nothing above fits but you want to be considered, email matt@starsocceracademy.co.uk.
